Truecaller Now Installed on Every 7th Smartphone in India, Eyes Japan and Indonesia Next

Sweden-based crowdsourcing phone directory app Truecaller announced today that the company now processes around 500 million name and number lookups each month, a 70 percent increase since we talked about the company just last month. Userbase numbers have grown by two million since then as well, with half of the new users coming from India. Marketing manager Kim Fai Kok shared some data with us that shows how well the app is doing in Asia.
India is still the number one Asian country user for Truecaller. The country ranks first when it comes to the number of searches made every month. In the past month alone, there has been an increase of over one million users from India. Now basically one of every seven smartphone users in India uses Truecaller.

Asia is definitely loving Truecaller, with almost 50 percent of contact requests now coming from the continent (not counting Truecaller’s Middle Eastern users, who are technically also in Asia). The company is now eyeing potential Asian markets to expand into, and Japan and Indonesia are high on the list “due to smartphone penetration rate and maturity,” as Kim explained. I personally believe that their choice to expand to Indonesia is a good one, as the country is definitely one to look out for in the coming decades.
Recording 200 million additional searches in one month is no small feat, and it seems like the company is on a roll. We look forward to hearing more about it when Truecaller dips its feet deeper into Japan and Indonesia.

Blogger get a new look

Thursday, 1 September 2011

Important change in new layout is its writing pane. For me, it is the simplest writing pane in the world. The new style goes in the favor of Wordpress pane.

Google is also going to change Bloggers name to 'Google Blogs'. Now problem arises with URL of blogger sites. I hope Google redirects links to go to the new Google Blogs. It’s actually technically trivial to do so. It seems that Google is afraid that people will forget that Google developed these products. To remember people, google is adding its name before all products.

(Cross-posted from Blogger Buzz)

As you may have heard, things are starting to look a little different across many Google products—and today, Blogger is the next product to get a makeover.

It’s been a few years since we made major updates to Blogger’s look and feel, and there’s a lot more to these changes than just shiny new graphics. We’ve rewritten the entire editing and management experience from scratch so it’s faster and more efficient for you—and easier for us to update and improve over time.

Throughout the design process, we conducted user interviews to help identify how to make Blogger even easier and more enjoyable to use. We also watched users try our new interface and made many refinements based on their feedback.

A streamlined blogging experience
Whether you’re on a dashboard or settings page of blogger.com, you can always create or edit posts with just one click at the top of the screen. Additionally, the post editor has been expanded and simplified to give you a larger canvas for drafting and previewing your work.

Monitor and grow your audience at a glance
In the new “Overview” section of your dashboard, you’ll be able to quickly get a pulse for how people are reacting to your blog with a graph of your most recent traffic numbers, comment activity and follower counts. For extra guidance and inspiration, you’ll also find a list of helpful links, a feed of Blogger updates and a showcase of other blogs you may find interesting.

Opt in now
Starting today, we’ll gradually let all bloggers choose to turn on the new UI, so your Blogger experience won’t be updated until you enable it. Over the next few days, keep an eye out for a pop-up announcement on your dashboard with instructions on how to get started, and check out this Blogger Help Center page to learn more about what’s changed.

If you have suggestions or feedback about the new look, click the gear icon in the top right of the navigation bar and select “Send Feedback.”

We’re working hard to fundamentally revamp and improve the Blogger experience from the ground up, and we hope you enjoy the first in a series of major updates that are on their way in the coming months.

Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations 2011 | Vinayaka Chaturthi 2011

Ganesha Chaturthi, the great Ganesha festival, also known as ‘Vinayak Chaturthi’ or ‘Vinayaka Chavithi’ is celebrated by Hindus around the world as the birthday of Lord Ganesha. It is observed during the Hindu month of Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) and the grandest and most elaborate of them, especially in the western India state of Maharashtra, lasts for 10 days, ending on the day of ‘Ananta Chaturdashi’.
The Grand Celebration

A life-like clay model of Lord Ganesha is made 2-3 months prior to the day of Ganesh Chaturthi. The size of this idol may vary from 3/4th of an inch to over 25 feet.
On the day of the festival, it is placed on raised platforms in homes or in elaborately decorated outdoor tents for people to view and pay their homage. The priest, usually clad in red silk dhoti and shawl, then invokes life into the idol amidst the chanting of mantras. This ritual is called ‘pranapratishhtha’. After this the ‘shhodashopachara’ (16 ways of paying tribute) follows. Coconut, jaggery, 21 ‘modakas’ (rice flour preparation), 21 ‘durva’ (trefoil) blades and red flowers are offered. The idol is anointed with red unguent or sandal paste (rakta chandan). Throughout the ceremony, Vedic hymns from the Rig Veda and Ganapati Atharva Shirsha Upanishad, and Ganesha stotra from the Narada Purana are chanted.

For 10 days, from Bhadrapad Shudh Chaturthi to the Ananta Chaturdashi, Ganesha is worshipped. On the 11th day, the image is taken through the streets in a procession accompanied with dancing, singing, to be immersed in a river or the sea symbolizing a ritual see-off of the Lord in his journey towards his abode in Kailash while taking away with him the misfortunes of all man. All join in this final procession shouting “Ganapathi Bappa Morya, Purchya Varshi Laukariya” (O father Ganesha, come again early next year). After the final offering of coconuts, flowers and camphor is made, people carry the idol to the river to immerse it.

The whole community comes to worship Ganesha in beautifully done tents. These also serve as the venue for free medical checkup, blood donation camps, charity for the poor, dramatic performances, films, devotional songs, etc. during the days of the festival.

Swami Sivananda Recommends
On the Ganesh Chaturthi day, meditate on the stories connected with Lord Ganesha early in the morning, during the Brahmamuhurta period. Then, after taking a bath, go to the temple and do the prayers of Lord Ganesha. Offer Him some coconut and sweet pudding. Pray with faith and devotion that He may remove all the obstacles that you experience on the spiritual path. Worship Him at home, too. You can get the assistance of a pundit. Have an image of Lord Ganesha in your
house. Feel His Presence in it.

Don’t forget not to look at the moon on that day; remember that it behaved unbecomingly towards the Lord. This really means avoid the company of all those who have no faith in God, and who deride God, your Guru and religion, from this very day.

Take fresh spiritual resolves and pray to Lord Ganesha for inner spiritual strength to attain success in all your undertakings.

May the blessings of Sri Ganesha be upon you all! May He remove all the obstacles that stand in your spiritual path! May He bestow on you all material prosperity as well as liberation!

See how Lokpal Bill can curb the politicians

Saturday, 27 August 2011

Summary of All scams of India : Rs. 910603234300000/-

See howLokpal Bill can curb the politicians,
Circulate it to create awareness

Existing System
System Proposed by civil society
No politician or senior officer ever goes to jail despite huge evidence because Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) and CBI directly come under the government. Before starting investigation or prosecution in any case, they have to take permission from the same bosses, against whom the case has to be investigated. Lokpal at centre andLokayukta at state level will be independent bodies.ACB and CBI will be merged into these bodies. They will have power to initiate investigations and prosecution against any officer or politician without needing anyones permission. Investigation should be completed within 1 year and trial to get over in next 1 year. Within two years, the corrupt should go to jail.
No corrupt officer is dismissed from the job because Central Vigilance Commission, which is supposed to dismiss corrupt officers, is only an advisory body. Whenever it advises government to dismiss any senior corrupt officer, its advice is never implemented. Lokpal andLokayukta will have complete powers to order dismissal of a corrupt officer.CVC and all departmental vigilance will be merged intoLokpal and state vigilance will be merged into Lokayukta.
No action is taken against corrupt judges because permission is required from the Chief Justice of India to even register an FIR against corrupt judges. Lokpal &Lokayukta shall have powers to investigate and prosecute any judge without needing anyones permission.
Nowhere to go - People expose corruption but no action is taken on their complaints. Lokpal &Lokayukta will have to enquire into and hear every complaint.
There is so much corruption within CBI and vigilance departments. Their functioning is so secret that it encourages corruption within these agencies. All investigations inLokpal &Lokayukta shall be transparent. After completion of investigation, all case records shall be open to public. Complaint against any staff ofLokpal &Lokayukta shall be enquired and punishment announced within two months.
Weak and corrupt people are appointed as heads of anti-corruption agencies. Politicians will have absolutely no say in selections of Chairperson and members ofLokpal & Lokayukta. Selections will take place through a transparent and public participatory process.
Citizens face harassment in government offices. Sometimes they are forced to pay bribes. One can only complaint to senior officers. No action is taken on complaints because senior officers also get their cut. Lokpal &Lokayukta will get public grievances resolved in time bound manner, impose a penalty ofRs 250 per day of delay to be deducted from the salary of guilty officer and award that amount as compensation to the aggrieved citizen.
Nothing in law to recover ill gotten wealth. A corrupt person can come out of jail and enjoy that money. Loss caused to the government due to corruption will be recovered from all accused.
Small punishment for corruption- Punishment for corruption is minimum 6 months and maximum 7 years. Enhanced punishment - The punishment would be minimum 5 years and maximum of life imprisonment
.

Dear All, Please go through the details carefully
& try to be part of this mission against corruption.

Things to know about AnnaHazare andLok pal Bill-:

1.Whois Anna Hazare?
An ex-army man(Unmarried). Fought 1965 Indo-Pak war.

2.What'sso special about him?
He built a villageRalegaonSiddhi inAhamad Nagar district, Maharashtra.

3.This village is a self-sustained model village. Energy is produced in the village itself from
solar power, biofuel and wind mills. In 1975, it used to be a poverty clad village.
Now it is one of the richest village in India. It has become a model for self-sustained, eco-friendly
& harmonic village.

4. This guy, AnnaHazare was awardedPadmaBhushan and is a known figure for his social activities.

5. He is supporting a cause, the amendment of a law to curb corruption in India.

6. How that can be possible?
He is advocating for a Bill, TheLok Pal Bill (The Citizen Ombudsman Bill),
that will form an autonomous authority who will make politicians (ministers),
bureaucrats (IAS/IPS) accountable for their deeds.

7. It's an entirely new thing right..?
In 1972, the bill was proposed by then Law minister Mr.Shanti Bhushan.
Since then it has been neglected by the politicians and some are trying to change the bill to suit
their theft (corruption).

8. Oh.. He is going on a hunger strike for that whole thing of passing a Bill ! How can that be
possible in such a short span of time?
The first thing he is asking for is: thegovt should come forward and announce that the bill is going
to be passed. Next, they make a joint committee to DRAFT theLOK PAL BILL.
50% government participation and 50% public participation.
Bcoz u can't trust the government entirely for making such a bill which does not suit them.

9.Whatwill happen when this bill is passed?
ALokPal will be appointed at the centre. He will have an autonomous charge, say like the
Election Commission of India. In each and every state,Lokayukta will be appointed.
The job is to bring all alleged party to trial in case of corruptions within 1 year.
Within 2 years, the guilty will be punished.
Pass this on n showur support..

Spread it like fire; Our Nation needs us...
Please Contribute... This is not just a forward,
its the future of our Nation.

How to stop Vodafone Flash SMS on iPhone

Friday, 26 August 2011

From few days i was getting unwanted flash sms. this has annoyed me more than any consumer service that I have paid or signed up for. For those new to Flash SMS: Flash SMS appear directly on your screen instead of appearing in your "inbox". This is set as a default on your new Vodafone India SIM - which they use to spam every time you blink your eye.

If the random SMSs that you get arent enough to annoy you - if you accidentally accept that SMS, you are charged on top.

Trying to get rid of it involves calling the amazing service staff which has no idea where to find the "menu" on an iphone. Called a few times, and gave up after being frustrated with the lack of competence. Finally my patience gave in and - lets just say had to use my words very carefully (in case they were recording) before they managed to find someone who knew how they spammed iphones.
Now for the process:
Step 1: Find "Phone" under settings on your iPhone
Step 2: Click on "SIM Applications"

Step 3: There is the sucker

Step 4:Click on "Activation"

Step 5: And finally on "Deactivate"
There you go. Seems to have worked and no longer getting these messages.
If Vodafone manages to see this page - feel free to use my images to add it to your website. While you are at it, you should do it for other phones too
